Happy Korean New Year!

Koreans celebrate the Solar New Year, however an even bigger tradition is the Korean New Year–also referred as the Chinese New Year, Lunar New Year, etc. According to the Gregorian Calendar, 2012′s Lunar New Year begins today on January 23.

On the Solar New Year, Koreans may party with their friends, have a couple shots of soju and fire up the dance floor. During the Korean New Year, they spend time with their families. As explained in KWOW #28: Korean Holidays, Koreans get three days off from work to visit hometowns, eat ddukguk (떡국), dress up in the traditional Korean costume hanbok (한복), bow to the elders, and more.
